Dr Geraldene Mackay is an Accredited Social Worker with an extensive experience in treating metal health problems with psychological therapies. She is a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers and a founding member of the Australian College of Social Work. She holds a BSW(Hons) and a PhD(Health Sciences) from La Trobe University, Australia.
Dr Mackay has a particular interest in assisting older patients and uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to manage grief, demoralisation, depression, chronic quiet desperation, moodiness, withdrawal, anger, pain management, sleep problems, preoccupation with health and death anxiety.
She values working with families especial in areas such as developing communication skills with loved ones suffering dementia; enacting legal powers; tackling anxiety and depression in carers; dealing with guilt and involved in the transition of loved ones to residential care.
She has skills in motivational interviewing assisting others in implementing and making change.
She has extensive experience providing therapeutic interventions for depression, anxiety, PTSD, adjustment issues, personality disorder, suicidal thinking, relationship problems, anger and maladaptive emotional responses.
Dr Mackay also has experience in service development and supervision of therapists.
